In all my cask tastings the 1986 was an impressive wine, with deep ruby/black color, super depth, richness, full body, stunning length, and enough tannin to insure a positive evolution for 5-6 years. Muscular and brawny, it is marked by the toasty vanilla of 100% new oak barrels. The wine is excellent, but much lighter than I had thought it to be when tasted from cask. It is a sleeper of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: Now. Last tasted, 4/90.
