The 2016 Dolcetto d'Alba Bricco Bastia is a second excellent expression of Dolcetto in as many years. This vintage is a little crisper, perhaps, with more acidity compared to the fleshier and thicker 2015 vintage before it. Fruit is harvested from the highest vineyard in Monforte d'Alba, so you can always count on the acidity to be more prominent here. The wine has rough tannins (not noble tannins like you get with Nebbiolo), but it does offer exuberant and vibrant dark fruit. This is an excellent wine to pair with salami and Italian cold cuts.

Tight and edgy, featuring a firm structure exercising grip on the pure violet, cherry, blackberry, plum and earth flavors. With a little aeration this turns supple and rich, revealing a hint of bitter chocolate on the finish.
