The 2005 Wilhelmus is a Bordeaux-style blend of 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc,12% Petit Verdot, and 8% Malbec. It spent 24 months in 30% new French oak. Crimson-colored, it exhibits a complex array of toast, smoke, cedar, clove, cassis, and black currants. Full-bodied and more structured than its two predecessors, with layers of spicy red and black fruits, this well-balanced wine will evolve for 4-6 years and provide pleasure through 2020. Hans and Fransien Haan began operations in 1993 after purchasing a 45 acre Barossa vineyard located between Tununda and Angston. The wines are made by Mark Jamieson.Importer: Ben Hammerschlag, Epicurean Wines, Seattle, WA; www.haanwines.com.au
