Floral cherry and berry aromas have a touch of anise, and this is firm and concentrated on the palate, with a rich, structured framework. A bit rustic, showing a touch of heat on the finish. Best to decant for now. Best from 2009 through 2013. 269 cases made. -JL

Last year, Buoncristiani released their 2004 Claret, and it got 92 points. This wine, which costs more than twice as much, is better. It’s very rich, with softly elegant acids and tannins that frame extraordinarily rich currant, plum, chocolate, anise and black pepper flavors.
