Adelina’s lineup begins with the 2006 Grenache sourced from a 65-year-old estate vineyard with yields of under 1 ton of fruit per acre. It offers an expressive perfume of smoke, damp earth, spice box, strawberry, and black cherry. This is followed by a velvety-textured, layered Grenache with gobs of black cherry and black raspberry flavors, excellent balance, and a lengthy, fruit-filled finish. Medium red. Pure strawberry and raspberry aromas show striking clarity, with zesty minerality adding even more vivacity. Crisp, nervy red fruit flavors are complicated by rose and cinnamon, with no obvious tannins getting in the way. I find the energy and depth of sweet but focused red fruit flavors here utterly compelling, and am dumbfounded at the price. This could pass for upper-level New World pinot. Finishes clean and silky, with outstanding persistence. Maybe the best red wine value in this price range that I've had this year, from anywhere.
