Including a massive 13% of Viognier, the 2012 Cote Rotie La Brocarde is another classic example of the appellation (despite being aged in 100% new oak). Loaded with juicy blackberry, spice, leather, dried pepper, bouquet garni and rendered bacon fat, it flows onto the palate with a medium-bodied, supple texture, superb purity of fruit and a big finish. It will benefit from short term cellaring and evolve gracefully for 15 years or more.

Made by Francois Villard, with varying degrees of whole cluster fermentation, these wines shows the racier, focused and peppery side to Syrah. Bright acids, notable tannin and pure, clean flavors are the norm here. Given the high level of stem usage, the vast majority of these will benefit from short term cellaring.
