Black pepper, cassis, and plums can be discerned in the nose of the complex 2001 Nuits-St.-Georges Les Damodes. Having enjoyed one of the longest malo-lactic fermentations of any of Domaine Lecheneaut’s 2001s, this medium to dark ruby-colored wine boasts a bold, deep character crammed with silky black cherry and mineral flavors. Concentrated and lush, it is a beautiful medium-bodied red Burgundy for drinking over the next 6-7 years.
The Lecheneaut brothers, Philippe and Vincent, have a distinct preference for the 2000s over the 2001s. According to them, “the acidity levels are higher in 2001 and the tannins had trouble ripening whereas in 2000 we had superb ripeness.”
