The hugely spicy, medium to dark ruby-colored 2000 Chambertin Clos de Beze reveals sugar-coated red and black fruits in its aromatics. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated, as well as dense, it slathers the palate with broad waves of candied cherries and raspberries. Drink this gorgeous 2000 over the next 7 years.
Lucien Le Moine’s 2000 reds have more flesh and texture than the majority of the wines from this vintage. While a few were too tight and tannic to recommend, the finest appear to be loaded with baby fat. This means they are delicious to drink in the near term, but may reveal leaner structures with cellaring.
Concerning the 2000 reds, Saouma stated that it was a “very difficult vintage” in the Cote de Beaune. To achieve success in 2000 with reds, it was important to work the lees without adding sulfur and perform a long elevage.”
