The 2014 Lupicaia was a very limited release, with only half of the usual production. It is a fairly closed blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot that is less expressive than the other vintages. The wine is also lighter in terms of texture and persistence. The bouquet here is very floral, with notes of rose hip and some bright cherry. The Lupicaia draws from a very selective harvest to begin with, and there have been other years when production was cut back significantly. The only vintage they skipped entirely was 2002, and the scorching-hot 2003 was eventually produced only after a long internal debate.
