The top of the range in white is a pure Godello under the name 2012 Lapena, sold almost five years after the harvest. It's produced with grapes from one single vineyard planted 36 years ago on a north-facing plot at 670 meters altitude on sand, schist and slate soils. The must fermented in used 600-liter French oak barrels for two months, where it was kept with lees for nine months and then transferred to egg-shaped cement vats where it matured for a further 12 months. It felt quite young color-wise and also in aromas and flavors. It has some influence from the élevage, with subtle spices and smoke and oak-related flavors in the palate. It felt somehow undeveloped, not terribly complex, like it needed more time in bottle... Only 1,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in 2014.
