The 2005 La Querciolaia, 65% Sangiovese and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, is another wine that is not entirely convincing. The aromatics lack focus, while the tannins don’t show the finesse that fans of this estate have become accustomed to. As always, the fruit possesses formidable depth, but that just isn’t enough to overcome the wine’s disjointed personality and other imperfections. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020. Proprietor Alessandro Francois makes a wide range of wines, but the stars are his single-vineyard bottlings. This year, the wines are more variable than in the past, but to be fair, some of the less interesting bottles are from the challenging 2005 harvest.Importer (all wines except Cignale): Prestige Wine Imports, New York, NY; tel.
