The estate’s 2007 Bolgheri Superiore Tam, 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Cabernet Franc that spent 24 months in French oak, is the best wine I have ever tasted from Batzella. Here the fruit is still quite primary, while the textural richness flows with authority, energy and focus. The finish is long, silky and impeccably balanced. The 2007 Tam is a superb effort from this up-and-coming property. It will be fascinating to see how this develops in bottle. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019.
These are two delicious wines from Batzella, an emerging property on the Tuscan coast. Consutling oenologist Attilio Pagli oversees winemaking.
