The 2006 Tam offers up black fruit, grilled herbs, earthiness, and smoke in a medium-bodied style. The wine reveals good intensity, but the tannins are somewhat hard and penalizing, especially on the finish. Tam is 65 % Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Cabernet Franc that spent 24 months in French oak. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2016.
Batzella is one of the emerging properties on the Tuscan coast. The range this year isn’t as completely convincing as it was last year, but these two 2006s are successful.
