Freisa is a grape which is usually dismissed in discussions of Piedmont wine, but this producer believes in it and the 2001 Freisa Kye is unquestionably a horse of a different color compared to others in the zone. Bright ruby with raspberry, incense, and vanilla scents, its berry fruit flavors are amplified by notes of olives, underbrush, roots, and bark, and the concentration and structure are very good indeed. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2015.
