The 2010 Clos St. Denis is fabulous. It shows off tremendous depth and power while at the same time retaining tons of elegance. Black cherries, plums, violets, tar and licorice are supported by intense veins of minerality that give the wine its focus and sense of proportion. Floral notes are woven throughout and add a sense of finesse. The long, insistent finish is totally striking in its beauty. This is a flat-out great wine from Benjamin Leroux. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2035.
I continue to be impressed with the wines Benjamin Leroux is making under his own label. Leroux sources fruit from a number of top vineyards in the region. The wines are made in a facility Leroux shares with Nicolas Rossignol in the center of town. Unfortunately the 2010 Bonnes-Mares was too reduced to evaluate.
