Ted Lemon is not the first to exploit Pinot Noir in the Anderson Valley, but he is one of the best. The 1996 Pinot Noir Savoy Vineyard is a deep, rich wine with medium body, a deep ruby color, and an attractive nose of cherries, blackberries, and a touch of plum. There is firm tannin in the wine's medium-bodied, attractive finish. While it can be consumed now, it promises to improve over the next 1-2 years, although I think drinking it within its first 5-7 years of life makes sense. This small artisanal producer has moved to a barn/winery high on Howell Mountain, adjacent to the Black Sears Vineyard.
