Ted Lemon is not the first to exploit Pinot Noir in the Anderson Valley, but he is one of the best. The 1996 Pinot Noir Savoy Vineyard is a deep, rich wine with medium body, a deep ruby color, and an attractive nose of cherries, blackberries, and a touch of plum. There is firm tannin in the wine's medium-bodied, attractive finish. While it can be consumed now, it promises to improve over the next 1-2 years, although I think drinking it within its first 5-7 years of life makes sense. This small artisanal producer has moved to a barn/winery high on Howell Mountain, adjacent to the Black Sears Vineyard. Proprietors Heidi and Ted Lemon continue to turn out some of California's most elegant, flavorful, subtle wines. Littorai's wines are only available via their mailing list.
