A soft and spicy Syrah, with the defining Wahluke appellation characteristic of citrus, here expressed as a flavor of bitter rind. The grapefruity note is persistent, perhaps due to 11% Viognier co-fermentation. The wine at this stage seems to be disconnected from itself; the two grapes are competing rather than blending. The Syrah, smoky and peppery, may reassert itself with a bit more bottle age. ——P.G.(3/1/2007)—— 88
