The 1996 Syrah Goldridge Vineyard (230 cases) is a hedonistic, fat, succulently-textured Syrah with gobs of peppery, creme de cassis fruit, a notion of burning wood fires, and pepper, full body, outstanding purity, and no hard edges. Despite its size, it is a Syrah to consume over the next 15 years.Dehlinger is producing very fine Syrah. Tom Dehlinger believes Syrah is a natural in California, setting a crop that can yield an astonishing ten tons of fruit per acre. He prunes and crop thins to get his yields down to 3-4 tons per acre. That still seems high, but I cannot argue with the extraordinary flavors and richness these wines possess.Tel. (707) 823-2378; Fax (707) 823-0918.
