This is the finest wine I have tasted from Domaine de la Mavette. It needs 3-4 years of cellaring, but it reveals a deep ruby/purple color, a big-boned, structured, tannic feel in the mouth, plenty of depth and ripeness, oodles of jammy black-cherry and curranty fruit, and ferocious tannin in the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2008. Last tasted 6/96. This estate has impressive hillside vineyard sites in addition to very old vines, so the potential for brilliant wines is obvious. To date, the wine has been an old-style, slightly oxidized Gigondas that is heavy and forceful. The 1995s may be a sign that more freshness and an earlier bottling are making some inroads at this property.(No tasting note was provided in Issue 113.
