Winemaker/proprietor Russ Raney continues to exhibit considerable talent with both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Virtually all of his wines go in the bottle unfiltered, which explains in part the rich, chewy texture and length Raney achieves. Somewhat closed, the 1991 Pinot Noir-Unfiltered exhibits a deep ruby color, and a promising nose of spicy oak, jammy red and black fruits, and meat. The chewy texture, deep, concentrated feel, medium to full body, and firm tannins suggest waiting for 6-8 months to pull the cork. This is an impressively endowed Pinot Noir that may garner a higher score when some of the tannins melt away.
