The red Cotes du Rhone-Villages Rasteau Vieilles Vignes is a blend of 65% Grenache, 25% Syrah, and 10% Mourvedre aged 25% in old oak barrels and 75% in tank. This is a rustic, leathery, chocolatey effort possessing considerable force, loads of sweet and sour black cherry fruit, and a hint of roasted meats. The wine is not that civilized, and there is a certain toughness to the tannin, but readers who love more animalistic, big southern Rhone reds will enjoy it. The wine will age for a decade.
