The 2000 Papa Pepu is an ambitious effort. A deep, blackish ruby, its warm and sweet aromas of black berry fruit, plums, and Mediterranean herbs is matched by a full, round palate with plenty of spicy coconut and chocolate from the oak, and an attractive complexity from the cassis, blackberries, and herbs. Drink: 2004-2010.Roberto Bellini, the founder of Pieve di Santa Restituta, has now embarked on a new project after selling it to Angelo Gaja. The 1998 Brunello di Montalcino, which just missed the cut-off, was made from very young vines; this wine, a Sangiovese/Cabernet, indicates that the vineyard is proceeding nicely.Importer: Dufour & Co.
