Chauvenet's 2006 Clos Vougeot mingles sweetly-ripe, lightly-cooked red fruits and cherry with smoked meat in the nose and on a quite plush, lush palate. This exhibits a saline savor and sense of refinement that are uncommon in its appellation, and finishes expansively and persistently fruit-filled, albeit packing a hint of heat. At 13.8%, it is the highest in alcohol of its collection.Hubert Chauvenet professed having been more active than normal in 2006 with punch-downs and pump-overs, in order to compensate for paucity of material, and a certain undertone of bitterness in a few of his lighter-weight 2006s may be explicable on that account.Imported by Robert Kacher Selections, Washington, DC; tel.
