The white 2012 Horizonte de Exopto is produced from the individual white vines planted together with the reds in their old vineyards. It’s a blend of Viura (85%),Garnacha Blanca (10%) and Malvasia Riojana (5%) that ferment together. It has the old-vine intensity and the complexity of a diverse blend even at such an early age. Fennel, white flowers, yellow peach and a salty note make for a very attractive bottle of wine. I like this white very much, and I believe it will have good bottle evolution. Drink 2014-2018.
The proper name of the company is Rug Vino, which is a pun in Spanish because all the founders were friends and were into rugby, of which only Bordeaux-born Tom Puyabert remains. He aims at expressing the terroir and character of the old vines through blending different grape varieties and zones (Garnacha mainly from Alfaro and the rest from Abalos) and using only the autochthonous yeast from the grapes. He crafts 60,000 bottles of fine wine per year.
