I have often been a fan of the Blanc des Rosis (40% Tocai Friulano, 20% Pinot Grigio, 20% Sauvignon 15% Malvasia, 5% Ribolla) but in 2006 this blend seems to be less expressive and complete than the best monovarietal wines. Made in a fatter, sweeter style than the preceding wines, it offers expressive aromatics and a generous core of ripe fruit, mint and licorice with excellent poise and length on the palate. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2009. Mario Schiopetto was an early visionary in making high quality wines in Friuli. Deeply influenced by his travels in France and especially Germany, he adapted much of what he learned to making wines in Friuli, most importantly the use of stainless steel to make crisp, fresh wines. Today the winery is run by Schiopetto’s three children; Carlo, Giorgio and Maria Angela. The estate is located in Capriva, one of the cooler microclimates in Friuli, and therefore particularly favorable to the cultivation of Sauvignon.Importer: Vintus LLC, Pleasantville, NJ tel.
