Judging by his sole wine I had belated opportunity to sample, young Philippe Collotte is one of the several new stars of Marsannay. His 2005 Marsannay Vieilles Vignes smells vividly of fresh black raspberry, backed by honeysuckle, iodine, wet stones, and clean red meat. Juicy and refreshing, it coats the palate with invigoratingly tart black raspberry, low-toned mineral shadings, iodine, chalk, vivid cherry pit, and subtle soy and roasted meat suggestions. Clear-fruited and refined in tannin, this fantastic value maintains a delightfully ripe fruit character without evincing any superficial sweetness.Importer: Weygandt-Metzler, Unionville, PA; tel.
