The 2010 LMV Salon is stunning. Black fruit, plums dark cherries, graphite and crushed rocks are some of notes that emerge from this strikingly beautiful red. The 2010 shows tremendous polish, energy and sheer class. This is a breathtaking effort. In 2010 the LMV Salon is more Cabernet Sauvignon-focused than it has been in recent years. The blend is 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet Franc and 9% Petit Verdot. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029. Larkmead is one of the historic estates in Napa Valley, with a rich lineage that goes back to 1895. The wines I tasted with proprietor Cam Baker and winemaker Andy Smith were all exceptional. Most importantly, though, these are highly individualistic wines loaded with true personality and class. The 2010 Proprietary Red LMV Salon (78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet Franc and 9% Petit Verdot) possesses a European-styled structure imposed on its white chocolate, black currant, cedarwood and Christmas fruitcake notes. This classic Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine reveals abundant aromas, rich fruit and a medium to full-bodied, youthful, firmly structured finish. Drink it over the next 15-20 years. This splendid estate situated in the heart of Napa Valley, just north of St. Helena, has enjoyed a reputation for high quality for well over a century. Tasting with winemaker Andy Smith and Larkmead’s proprietor Cam Baker demonstrated once again just what brilliant wines these can be.
