The deep plum/purple-colored, dense, chewy 1997 Amarone della Valpolicella Gaso exhibits notions of fudge intermixed with charcoal, smoke (akin to burning embers), and earth. With 15.5% alcohol, it is not one of the most powerful Amarones produced, but there is plenty of depth, richness, fruit, and body. Drink it over the next decade.
