Proprietor Chuck Minn has added an authentic Bordeaux-styled Sauvignon Blanc to his portfolio. Philippe Melka is treating it like a Haut-Brion-Blanc or Laville-Haut-Brion, with no malolactic, and 18 months in 100% new French oak. It is not the typical fruity California Sauvignon that requires consumption in its first year of life. The 2004, an amazing example of Sauvignon Blanc, is reminiscent of that made by Melka for Lail Vineyards. It boasts wonderful honeysuckle and buttery melon characteristics along with subtle oak, medium to full body, a texture not dissimilar from a top white Burgundy, crisp acidity, and loads of both flavor and power. This French-styled beauty should age nicely for 7-8 years.
