Readers looking for fabulous values should check out Yalumba's Grenache cuvee. The wine is made in reasonably large quantities (about 8,000 cases). It does not see any new oak. The outstanding 1998 Grenache comes from unirrigated, head-pruned vines. A dark ruby-colored effort, it exhibits intense aromas of ground pepper intermixed with strawberry and cherry liqueur, roasted herbs, and spice. Full-bodied, yet silky-textured, and flamboyant, it is a gorgeously fleshy wine to drink over the next 4-5 years. Importer: Negociants, USA, Napa, CA; tel. (707) 259-0993
