The 2004 Wolfer Goldgrube Riesling Spatlese A.P. #5, from a picking that was fermented with cultured yeasts, presents a much more open and obvious nose of peach and apple, a yet more vivacious and more citric palate impression in which the subtle impinging of CO2 certainly plays a role. The sheer exuberance of finishing fruit is compelling, even though the wine lacks the subtleties of near-magical clarity of the A.P. #4.
