The 2005 Brauneberger Juffer Riesling Beerenauslese smells of grilled pineapple and herbal distillates with an almost smarting pungency of botrytis. Thick and creamy on the palate with a subtle and refined expression of citrus, honey and sweet herbs and an echo of the botrytis pungency that was so intense in the nose, this Beerenauslese offers a long finish of honey, brown spice, herbal distillates, candied lemon, and grilled pineapple, and is much less overtly sweet than its Helenenkloster counterpart, seemingly on account of brighter acids and even more sheer stuffing. Certainly this will be another long keeper.
