The 2019 Shiraz is savory, meaty, dense and intense on the nose, with aromas of dried bay leaf, sous bois, shiitake mushroom and pastrami. In the mouth, the sweet, dark berry fruit is framed (and cut off) by firm tannins, which rob the fruit of its space to shine. This is surprisingly uncomplicated for the array of characters on the nose.

Very deep garnet-purple in color and showing youthful aromas of crushed blackberries and blueberries, plus hints of sage, tar and chargrill, the medium to full-bodied 2011 Shiraz has a tart acid line and firm, chewy tannins that slightly overshadow the earthy flavors. Aged for 12 months in French and American oak, 40% new, the 2008 Shiraz provides a very deep garnet-purple color and pretty aromas of crushed blackberries and blueberries with notes of violets, mace and allspice plus nuances of anise and vanilla. Medium to full bodied, the palate has crisp acidity, a medium level of very fine grained tannins supporting the generous fruit and a long finish. With so much going on, it can be approached now but it should evolve and better integrate over the next year, with optimal drinking 2011 to 2016+.
