The 2009 Syrah Gran Reserva (100%) spent 14 months in 40% new French and American oak. It displays notions of smoke, game, lavender and blueberry. This leads to a medium-bodied, spicy, intensely flavored wine with solid depth and length. It is approachable now but is likely to evolve for another 1-2 years and drink well through 2019. Vina Tarapaca, an arm of the giant San Pedro group, has released an impressive set of wines.Importer: MHW USA, Manhasset, NY; tel. (516) 382-4884
