In a bottle with a yellow wax capsule, the Valle Reale 2018 Trebbiano d'Abruzzo Vigna del Convento di Capestrano is textured and rich with plenty of orchard and tropical fruits. Winemaking only sees stainless steel. The fruit comes from a site that is 400 meters above sea level or higher in comparison with the Vigneto di Popoli. The alcohol in this bottle is a tiny bit lower and the freshness is more prominent. Both sites have similar loose, rocky soils. Exactly 3,820 bottles were made.

There was some sediment in my bottle of the Valle Reale 2014 Trebbiano d'Abruzzo Vigna del Convento di Capestrano: It was cloudy, with lots of lees at work here apparently. I tasted bottle 303 of 2,965 produced. I found candied orange peel, solid intensity and fullness, with some preserved lemon, honey and saffron at the back. This is a Trebbiano for smoked fish. The wine is sophisticated and delicate at the same time. Fruit comes from a very small parcel of Trebbiano located next to a little natural stream. This is the warmest parcel on the property. Whole clusters are pressed and the wine is carefully aged on the fine lees.

A creamy white, with a tang of salinity layered with flavors of spiced apple cider, crushed almond, lemon peel and heather. Well-knit and fresh, with a subtle finish. Drink now through 2019. 208 cases made, 30 cases imported.??–AN??Region: Italy / Trebbiano d'Abruzzo Select to Add

The 2012 Trebbiano d'Abruzzo Vigna di Capestrano shows a fragrant and floral bouquet with acacia, honeysuckle and star jasmine in a first wave of aromas. Those lighter tones are followed by candied orange peel, apricot and passion fruit. This is a tangy and citrusy white wine that offers added complexity in the form of dried herb and oregano. This Trebbiano is both unique and delicious in approach.

Valle Reale’s 2010 Trebbiano d’Abruzzo Vigna di Capestrano is frankly eye-opening with regards to the potential of Trebbiano. It brings together serious intensity, power and structure in an intense, exotic style that is hugely appealing. The 2010 was made with natural yeasts and bottled unfiltered, so the color is a bit cloudy, which is normal for wines made with this approach. Simply put, the Vigna di Capestrano is absolutely delicious. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018. Valle Reale is another of my favorite properties in Abruzzo.
