Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2009 Mungo Park Shiraz offers expressive ripe red plum, mulberry and warm cherry aromas with suggestions of allspice, underbrush and lavender. Full bodied with a good concentration of warm berry and earthy flavors, it has refreshing acidity and a medium to firm level of velvety tannins, finishing long. Drink it now to 2018+. Smooth and round, with a roasted red pepper edge to the dark berry and licorice flavors that persist impulsively on the long, meaty finish. A tart balance makes this feel lively and should carry it well in the cellar. The purple-colored 2006 Mungo Park Shiraz was sourced from 120-year-old vines. The nose reveals wood smoke, game, lavender, and intense blueberries that jump from the glass. Made in an elegant style, this tasty Shiraz is smooth-textured, concentrated, and impeccably balanced. It will offer a drinking window from 2012 to 2025. The Colonial Estate is the Australian project of Englishman and Bordeaux chateau owner Jonathan Maltus. His first vintage in Australia was 2002.
