The 1998 Corbieres Roquefort is a blend of nearly equal parts Grenache, Mourvedre, and Carignan from rocky soils, this saturated black/purple-colored wine exhibits a ripe (nearly over-ripe) nose reminiscent of a top-notch Turley Cellars Zinfandel from northern California. Thick, juicy, black fruits intertwined with cedar, spice box, fruitcake, pepper, and leather soar from the glass of this unctuously-textured, thick wine. With the 14.9% alcohol well-hidden, this great example of Corbieres should provide sumptuous drinking over the next 7-8 years. Wow! Importer: Martin Scott Wines, Little Neck, NY; tel. 516-327-0808.
