The 2005 Nine Degrees Riesling refers to the fact that fermentation was stopped early (at 9? alcohol) to retain natural sweetness. Light straw in color, it has an enticing perfume of wet stone, spring flowers, and lemon meringue. Tasting like an excellent Mosel Spatlese, the wine is crisp, fruity, and just a bit sweet. It will make a superb aperitif to consume on hot summer days. Tamar Ridge winery is on the banks of the Tamar River in northern Tasmania. With vineyards located between 41 and 43 degrees south Latitude, Tamar Ridge has more in common viticulturally with New Zealand than it does with mainland Australia.Importer: Robert Whale Selections, Washington, DC; www.tamarridge.com.au Also tasted: 2004 Pinot Noir (84)
