A big-boy wine released in 15,000 heavy bottles, the Sorrentino Vesuvio 2015 Aglianico Pompeiano Don Paolo is infused with big, dark blackberry fruit and savory baking spice, clove and nutmeg. Don Paolo speaks loudly on the palate, and makes a lasting impression as a serious steak wine with big tannins and acidity, thanks to that super opulent and fleshed-out style.

The 2011 Aglianico Pompeiano Don Paolo shows inky dark consistency and a very soft, opulent quality of fruit. This was a hot vintage and you taste that power and ripeness here. Cherry liqueur and blackberry preserves segue to Indian spice, tar, licorice and crème de cassis. The tannins are rough and textured with thick grains and noticeable astringency.
