Grapes comes from a half dozen of the sources used for the winery’s pricier single-vineyard bottlings; a good start. Despite its youth, there are no rough edges to this wine; it is soft, silky and utterly seductive. Plummy fruit mingles with streaks of chocolate and a whiff of red licorice, a rich vein of fruit and barrel, supported with well-tamed tannins.——P.G.(8/1/2011)—— 91

The 2008 Pinot Noir Oregon is dark ruby red with a fragrant nose of spice box, earthy underbrush, violets, and black cherry. On the palate it displays good depth, ripe fruit, and enough structure to evolve for 1-2 years. It can be enjoyed now and over the next 6-8 years. Owner/winemaker Peter Rosback presides at Sineann. His first vintage was 1995 and current production stands at 13,000 cases of vineyard designated wines from a range of AVAs. The current 2008 Pinot Noir releases are a paradox. The regular cuvees out-performed the two Reserve wines which were tannic and out-of-balance. The 2008 Pinot Noir Schindler Reserve and 2008 Pinot Noir Resonance Vineyard Reserve were both unusually tannic and out- of balance and could not be recommended.Tel. (503) 341-2698; www.sineann.com

Peter Rosback’s Oregon bottling may sometimes stand in the shadow of his numerous vineyard designates, but it offers pleasures all its own, beginning with the rich and smoothly woven scents of sweet red fruits, baking spices, tobacco leaf and vanilla. Wonderfully light and silky, with pure, expressive Pinot fruit, it needs no further aging, but will reward a few extra years with additional complexity.——P.G.(12/15/2009)—— 90
