The Sassotondo 2021 Bianco di Pitigliano Isolina is a blend of 70% Trebbiano (also called Procanico) 20% Sauvignon Blanc and 10% Greco that only sees stainless steel. The wine comes from a single vineyard with tufo soils called Isolina. This pretty white wine opens to aromas of orchard fruit, preserved lemon, white pepper and summer hay. It is softly fragrant, with high tones of mineral or salinity. The Sauvignon Blanc spends one night on the skins to impart more floral perfumes and add to the delicate creaminess of the mouthfeel.

Looking back in time, the Sassotondo 2016 Bianco di Pitigliano Isolina is exceptional. This blend of Trebbiano, Sauvignon Blanc and Greco reveals elegant petrol-like aromas that can only come with careful aging. In fact, Sassotondo has started a late-release program for some of the wines in its portfolio. This is a real treat. The wine shows a fine, silky texture with hints of apricot, preserved lemon and saffron spice. I am impressed by the longevity of this Pitigliano white wine.
