The 2010 Pinot Grigio Klodic shows good up-front intensity and a round, accessible personality. The 2010 isn’t terribly complex, but it is quite pleasant and will drink well for the next year or two. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2014. Sant’Elena is an interesting property. The estate is located in Gradisca, a town that historically has not been known for the quality of its vineyards. Still, in recent years, Sant’Elena has produced a number of terrific wines under the leadership of proprietor Dominic Nocerino, best known as the owner of Vinifera Imports. The 2009 Pinot Grigio Klodic flows from the glass with layers of intense, perfumed fruit. Far from an easygoing Pinot Grigio, this shows serious stuffing in a rich, expansive style. Roses and crushed flowers of all sorts linger on the textured finish. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2014. The 2008 Pinot Grigio Klodic is a fairly rich style of Pinot Grigio made with some skin contact, which gives the wine its slightly pinkish hue. This generous Pinot Grigio possesses excellent length in its perfumed core of fruit along with a lush, enveloping personality. It should pair nicely with a variety of foods. The 2007 Pinot Grigio Klodich offers attractive varietal fruit laced with perfumed aromatics. This tasty, soft-textured Pinot Grigio possesses excellent balance and poise. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2010. Importer Dominic Nocerino is making interesting wines at his Sant’Elena estate in Friuli. This 2000 Pinot Grigio is surprisingly concentrated and fleshy for a tank-fermented and aged white. Three percent barrel-fermented Chardonnay has been added to the blend, and perhaps that explains why this effort reveals more weight and texture than most modern Italian Pinot Grigios.
