I am including the 2008 Narrow and Straight Chardonnay Bien Nacido Vineyard since it includes 3% Viognier in the blend. While not technically a Rhone Ranger, it seemed appropriate to list it with the rest of these wines. A fabulous Chardonnay aged in a combination of stainless steel and new French oak, it exhibits a creamy richness and intense fruit as well as bright acids that provide uplift and definition. Reminiscent of Paul Lato’s brilliant Chardonnay, it is part grand cru white Burgundy and part exuberant California fruit bomb. This big, full-bodied white should drink well for 5-6 years.
