A certified-organic wine, the San Lorenzo 2019 Rosso di Montalcino opens to fresh tones of cherry, wild cassis and rose. The wine is lightweight and fresh, with the zesty Sangiovese acidity and flavor profile that would match so nicely to pizza or a simple pasta cacio e pepe. The wine boasts a medium-dark ruby hue and a glossy, polished mouthfeel. Production is 5,500 bottles, and the pricing is right. Nice job.

The 2018 Rosso di Montalcino is very fragrant and bright with wild berry, spice and some mild garden or medicinal herb. There is nothing too complicated here, but the wine does a nice job of presenting ripe and tonic fruit over a simple, lean-bodied palate. This easy Rosso could pair with a weeknight dinner of pork chops and mashed potatoes.

The 2016 Rosso di Montalcino (with 4,000 bottles produced) offers a smooth and steady interpretation of the Sangiovese grape. The wine opens to an inky appearance that is darker than your standard Rosso. The bouquet is redolent of dark cherry, plum, spice and cured tobacco. This wine ages in barrique for 12 months, and I am surprised to see the alcohol recorded at 15%. You feel that power but not in an obvious way.

The 2015 Rosso di Montalcino is a forthcoming and fruity wine that offers bright aromas of cherry, blackberry and sweet crème de cassis. That fruit really stands tall in this wine, and there's not much else at that back. That's fine, because you get loads of easy pleasure and food-friendly qualities in this powerful Rosso. The alcohol clocks in at 15.5% but feels like more. I lowered my score by a point or two because of that heat. Some 7,000 bottles were produced.

Loads of tobacco and spice accents grace a beam of pure cherry in this alluring red, which is firmly structured, yet builds to the long finish of tobacco and underbrush. Drink now through 2016. 2,000 cases made, 250 cases imported.??–BS??Region: Italy / Rosso di Montalcino Select to Add
