The 2011 Roig Parals is a Carinena/Garnacha blend aged for 10 months in stainless steel vats. It has a slightly animal, organic nose with notes of soil, leather, licorice and very ripe black fruit. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with flavors of ripe fruit and some dusty tannins. Drink now. This is a new name, a family winery created in 2004, but with a long tradition as grape growers. They own some exceptional vineyards like a centenary plot of Carinena where they source the fruit for the Cami de Cormes, a really impressive and profound wine well worth its price. The 2010 Roig Parals is a blend of 85% Samso (Carinena) and 15% Merlot from 60- to 80-year-old vines and sees no oak. It has a simple, primal bouquet with cassis and dark plum fruit. The palate is a little hard on the entry and there is a slight rawness in texture, although the finish has a rustic charm with blackberry, dark plum and a slight flintiness on the aftertaste. Drink now-2015. Roig Parals was founded in 2005. They own 11 hectares of vine – two plots with vines up to 116 years old. The 2009 Roig Parals is a blend of Samso, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot that was briefly exposed to barrel. It gives up aromas of lightly roasted black fruits, fresh herbs (sage and thyme), and violets leading to a concentrated, plush wine with good volume and a medium-long finish.
