The 2010 Roig Parals is a blend of 85% Samso (Carinena) and 15% Merlot from 60- to 80-year-old vines and sees no oak. It has a simple, primal bouquet with cassis and dark plum fruit. The palate is a little hard on the entry and there is a slight rawness in texture, although the finish has a rustic charm with blackberry, dark plum and a slight flintiness on the aftertaste. Drink now-2015.
Roig Parals was founded in 2005. They own 11 hectares of vine – two plots with vines up to 116 years old. Tasting inside the winery, conditions did appear rather cramped, but fortunately a new, more spacious facility is being built.
