The 2009 Zinfandel Stagecoach Vineyard is striking. It is one of the most primary, unevolved wines in this lineup. I especially like the vibrancy and purity of the dark fruit. With time in the glass sweet scents of licorice, tobacco and spices appear, but this remains a very young wine in need of cellaring, at least for readers who want to enjoy the wine at its finest. That said, it is fairly spectacular today. A deep, penetrating finish leaves a lasting impression. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. This lineup from Biale is full of fabulous wines. The 2008 Zinfandel from the Stagecoach Vineyard (389 cases), with a nose of lavender and garrigue, smells almost like a southern Cotes du Rhone. Medium-bodied, it possesses plenty of fruit and is very attractive, but it is by no means the most complex or interesting of these excellent wines. Drink it over the next 2-3 years. There is always a remarkable array of wines from Biale Vineyards. This family has been farming Zinfandel in Napa since 1937, and the wines consistently are among the highlights in my Zinfandel tastings. All of these wine generally have production levels of 200 to 500 cases, with the exception of the Valsecchi, which is only 47 cases, and the Black Chicken, which is nearly 2,600 cases.Tel. A 5-acre section is called the Biale Block, and from that comes 775 cases of the 2007 Zinfandel Stagecoach Vineyard Biale Block. Earthy, loamy soil, pepper, black cherry, and currant aromas lead to a generous, full-bodied, seductive wine with no shortage of flavor, silky tannins, and a heady finish.
