The 2018 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Serpentières is a little more reserved than the lavish Lavières, revealing aromas of plums, cherries and spices, framed by a touch of cedary new oak. Medium to full-bodied, its tannins are beautifully powdery but assert themselves on the finish.

The 2015 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Serpentières, which had been bottled in December, has crisp blackberry and bilberry scents on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannin, some lovely brambly black and red fruit, with a sense of finesse on the finish. Just a delicious Savigny.

The 2014 Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru les Serpentières has a slightly disjointed bouquet at the moment, although there is an attractive stony undertow. It has plenty of tart cherry fruit on the entry and slightly angular tannin, though it just needs to fill out a little flesh on the finish.

The 2013 Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru les Serpentières has an attractive nose with raspberry and strawberry pastilles that are nicely defined. The palate is medium-bodied with fresh lithe red berry fruit, a dash of spice and commendable structure on the finish. This is a well-crafted Savigny that comes recommended.

The 2010 Savigny-Les-Beaune Les Serpentieres emerges from the glass with sweet red cherries, flowers, spices and licorice. Today the wine is quite closed and compact, but it was also bottled just a few weeks before this tasting. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2020. Once again I tasted with the entire team at Remoissenet, including President Pierre Rovani, General Manager Bernard Repolt, Winemaker Claudie Jobard and Vineyard Manager Fred Le Prince. Remoissenet continues to ratchet up the quality of their reds. Given the house’s preference for texturally rich wines, the cool 2010 vintage provided attractive balancing elements here.
