The 2014 Savigny les Beaune Villages, which was one of the first to be picked (at least one of the two sources), has a slight earthiness on the nose with good definition, if a little simplistic. The palate is fresh on the entry with supple tannin, good acidity with a pretty blueberry and red cherry fruit. This is a satisfying Savigny-les-Beaune.

Rich, ripe and exuberant, the 2010 Savigny-Les-Beaune Blanc possesses gorgeous volume and texture backed up with considerable minerality. Hints of spices and slate add complexity on a finish laced with pear, peach and spice overtones. Anticipated maturity: 2012+. I was very impressed with the 2010 whites I tasted at Remoissenet this year. While most of the top wines are terrific, personally I find just as much pleasure in the many delicious offerings from humbler appellations in this extensive range. Remoissenet purchases fruit and/or wines for many of their offerings. I would not be surprised if there is less competition for the fruit/wines from those less prestigious appellations, which makes it easier to source top quality raw materials. As always, Remoissenet strives for a style built on full phenolic ripeness and harvests that are on the late side relative to most estates. My favorite wines are those where the richness of the fruit is accompanied by complementary minerality and vibrancy. I also tasted a handful of reds from Remoissenet’s Cellar Collection. These are wines that have been cellared in Remoissenet’s cellars for several decades. Prior to being re-released, the wines are decanted to remove sediment, topped up and sealed with a new cork. The 2009 Savigny-les-Beaune is an attractive, mid-weight wine graced with crushed berries, dried flowers, mint, roses and flowers. A clean vein of minerality adds focus and verve, especially on the finish. The Savigny was bottled in December, 2010. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. I tasted a wide range of wines with winemaker Claudie Jobard and president Pierre-Antoine Rovani, one of my predecessors at The Wine Advocate. Remoissenet has undergone a significant face lift under the guidance of Rovani and a new ownership team headed by a group of American investors. today's wines are made in an overt, fruit-forward style. Overall I found most of the best reds to be those made from estate owned fruit, while the wines made from purchased fruit are in most cases still works in progress, not surprising considering how much has changed here in a relatively short time span. Remoissenet favors low yields in the vineyards (estate vineyards are farmed biodynamically), harvests late and vinifies with long but gentle fermentations. The estate is not shy in using new oak to give the wines additional volume, including 100% new barrels for all the Grand Crus. Many of the entry-level 2009s were bottled early to preserve softness. This Savigny is not inspiring. This 1985 red is a soundly made, correct wine. The wines have more tart acidity at Remoissenet than elsewhere, as well as more noticeable alcohol levels and tannins. It is, like virtually all 1985s, well colored.
