The Maria Remirez de Ganuza cuvee was created in the 2003 vintage to honor the proprietor’s late daughter. It is a selection of the best barrels in the cellar and is a similar blend to the Fincas de Ganuza described above. The 2005 Maria Remirez de Genuza exhibits a superb perfume of balsam wood, pencil lead, mineral, truffle, incense, and black cherry. Dense, layered, yet elegant, the wine has significant underlying structure that will ensure a positive evolution for another 5-7 years. Its drinking window will extend from 2015 to 2030. I also was shown the magnificent 2004 (95 points) and the rather hollow 2003 (80 points).
One of Rioja’s finest estates, Bodegas Fernando Remirez de Ganuza makes a “second” label with a relationship to the top wine not unlike Les Forts de Latour to Latour.
